Major/Essential Duties of Job |
9 Month Position) Drive Texas A&M University transit routes as scheduled; operate assigned equipment in a safe manner and in adherence to all University and unit policies as well as local, state and federal laws. Assist management and supervisors train new drivers by teaching and demonstrating driving techniques, evaluating and providing feedback to the drivers and provide follow-up or retraining as necessary. Conduct a proper "pre" and "post" trip vehicle inspection and note any discrepancies at the beginning and end of every shift; report any potentially hazardous vehicle maintenance or safety issues immediately to a Transit Supervisor. Responsible for cleanliness of all equipment assigned during shift. Assist with ride checks, update body diagrams, check timetables and observations. Employees are responsible for the following: representing the department to internal and external customers by actively supporting diversity; maintaining 100% "on time" compliance with all university required training for all employees; approving time worked and requesting appropriate leave in a timely manner; reading and responding to e-mail; reviewing/reading information listed on the department intranet; performing assigned tasks in a safe manner and utilizing personal protective items/equipment as appropriate or instructed by supervisor or department; reporting unsafe actions or conditions to supervisor immediately and supporting and following unit/department safety guidelines, practices and policies. Persons in this position will be required to drive state vehicle to travel to various parts of campus and are considered essential when the University declares an emergency, campus closure, class cancellations, etc. Perform other duties as assigned. |

Occasional Duties |

Required Education and Experience |
High school graduation or any equivalent combination of training and experience. Two years' work experience. Valid vehicle operator's license and good driving record. Must be able to obtain State of Texas class "B" vehicle operator's license (Commercial Driver's License with passenger endorsement and air brakes endorsement) within 45 days of employment. Demonstrate the ability to operate several types of buses and vans to the extent of maneuvering safely through congested traffic conditions, adverse weather and road conditions. Exhibit a high degree of mental concentration and independent judgment. Good verbal and written communication skills. Experience with computers. This position will be covered by DOT regulations and be in a random drug and alcohol testing pool. Requires ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others. |

Preferred Education and Experience |
Previous commercial driving experience, customer service experience, training experience and mechanical experience. Commercial vehicle operator's license with passenger endorsement and air brakes endorsement. Commercial vehicle operator's license with passenger endorsement and air brakes endorsement. |

Comments to Applicants |
This is a 9 month position working from mid Aug to mid May. The position could be 50% working 20-25 hours per week, 75% working 30-39 hours per week or 100% working 40 hours per week, hours may vary.
