Major/Essential Duties of Job Assists with the daily operations of the campus transit system, monitors routes, coordinates drivers and buses, assists customers, and responds to accidents. In the field, supervise all activities which may require working in all types of weather. In the field, supervise all activities which may require working in all types of weather. Responsible for reconnaissance of traffic situations and operational stability that may influence driver movements to help ensure efficiency; time and space out buses and assist drivers and customers with any questions they may have about routes, procedures, and operations. Keep track of missing bus stop signs for replacement. Monitor effectiveness and efficiency in customer service and operational soundness. Assume ownership of projects. Supervise and monitor drivers for adherence of policies and procedures to include ensuring that all State laws, University rules, and Transportation Services policies, and expectations are being adhered to. Document and distribute action forms to drivers. Responsible for approving time worked and leave requests for full-time and part-time drivers. Expected to drive, dispatch, mobile supervise and train new drivers. In the office may be required to stand and sit for long periods of time while serving as the coordination point of contact between the shop, Transit Office, and supervisors in field. Monitor activities at the Transit Office and on the lot. Input all necessary data entry required by management to include charter assignments, passenger counts, driver memos, and information to be placed on "A-Frames". Sort all incoming and outgoing mail, reroute to appropriate manager, shop, or facility. Update the route board, desktop paperwork, and charter summary sheet for changes to charters, routes, and downed buses as changes occur. Assign buses. Process all incoming maintenance sheets. Issue vehicles to staff for use. Monitor all radio traffic. Monitor and update the daily log of information such as all necessary events including late drivers, no shows, any abandonment of workstations, sick drivers, bus swaps, mechanical problems, and discipline issues. Coordinate between the office and field for driver shortages, lates, sicks, no shows, abandonment of workstations, deployment plans, bus swaps and other policy issues. Distribute to drivers their route folders, bus assignment information, passenger counts, radios to vans, maps, credit card packets, window signs, etc. Distribute charter paperwork to drivers, inform them of bus assignment and answer questions. Ensure paperwork is properly completed and processed in a timely manner. Other duties as required.
Occasional Duties
Required Education and Experience High school graduation or any equivalent combination of training and experience. Four (4) years in progressively responsible positions including two (2) years of supervisory and customer service experience. Valid vehicle operator's license and good driving record. Must be able to obtain State of Texas class "B" vehicle operator's license (Commercial Drivers License with passenger endorsement and air brakes endorsement) within 45 days of employment.
Preferred Education and Experience High school graduation supplemented by completion of formal or practical vocational training or Associate's degree or any equivalent combination of training and experience. Supervisory experience with a transit agency. Commercial Drivers License with passenger endorsement and air brakes endorsement.
Comments to Applicants This position will be covered by DOT regulations and be in a random drug and alcohol testing pool. Must be able to work in all types of weather; standing and sitting for long periods of time; required to work some nights, holidays and weekends; and possibly rotating shifts. Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others. Must be computer literate and have excellent communication skills; ability to handle busy phone, 2-way radio and office traffic, and to perform time-critical tasks reliably.
