Major/Essential Duties of Job The Communications Specialist II functions as one of the technical leads for multi-media and graphic development for presentations, printed and social media projects. This person works as a member of a creative team alongside IT to plan and execute designs that encompass, but not limited to HTML/CSS/Java Script, video to further enhance the online, mobile and social presence of Texas A&M University. Provides design support and is responsible for assisting with the development and maintenance of Transportation Services websites. Provides graphic support and project management for print collateral, including campus signage and marketing campaigns. Responsibilities: •Develops consistent visual and written image by ensuring uniform formatting, images, fonts, icons, and layout consistent with university and departmental branding guidelines. •Interacts with Transportation Services staff for printed and multi-media content, to determine needs and assess priorities. Assists staff members with graphic design concepts to include providing graphic support and project management for ads, print collateral and social media accounts. •Composes press releases, responds to media inquiries and demonstrates experience in media writing. •Assists with design and content management of websites for other units within the division or with public/private partners. Uses Content Management System and/or HTML to assist in updating and maintaining the department’s internet and intranet sites. •Responsible for maintaining overall design for Transportation Services presentations and social media content in accordance with Texas A&M University design standards and guidelines. •Works jointly with the team to develop/coordinate implementation of interactive media applications. •Collaborates with Communications Manager to establish and maintain our presence and image on social media. •Serves as a lead for design and layout for Transportation Services video production and photographic images. •Develops photographs, graphics and multimedia for use on websites, electronic communications and applications. •Creates multimedia interactive products for campus and external consumption including templates, ads and more. •Responsible for interviewing, hiring, training, conducting performance evaluations and discipline action for student workers. •Oversees student workers schedules and ensures that wages stay within the budget amount. •Responsible for approving time worked for student workers. •Transportation Services is committed to providing courteous, responsive, quality service to our customers by fostering a respectful, positive, and welcoming environment for all. Occasional Duties
Required Education and Experience Required Education and Experience: •Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience. •Two years of experience in web site development/Internet communications, including web pages, microsites, user interfaces and/or online interactive multimedia. Required Licenses and Certifications: •Valid driver’s license. Must be able to obtain State of Texas class “C” vehicle operator’s license within 30 days of employment. Required Special Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: •Intermediate to advanced knowledge of responsive Web design, web-editing tools, office productivity tools, web communication procedures, social media and web content management systems; knowledge of HTML, CSS, web programming (JavaScript) and web multimedia. •Excellent communications skills, computer graphic design skills, content management software, forms, templates, and content syndication. •Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others.
Preferred Education and Experience Preferred Education and Experience: •Bachelor’s degree in graphic or commercial arts, communications, visualization sciences or computer science. •Intermediate to advanced knowledge of JavaScript, Bootstrap, JQuery, Adobe Dreamweaver, InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop. Knowledge of .NET, SQL, AJAX, XML, JSON, Visual Studio, C#, WebForms, MVC. Preferred Special Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: •Intermediate to advanced knowledge of JavaScript, Bootstrap, JQuery, Adobe Dreamweaver, InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop. Knowledge of .NET, SQL, AJAX, XML, JSON, Visual Studio, C#, WebForms, MVC.
