Football Thursday 2019

Aggies' First Football Game Of The Season Moved To Thursday, Aug. 29, 2019.

Texas A&M will once again host its first game of the football season on a Thursday as the university announced today it will move its game against Texas State from Saturday, August 31 to Thursday, August 29.

Similar to last year, when the season's first game occurred on Thursday Aug. 30, university officials say the opportunity provides significant national exposure for the institution and its student athletes and coaches.

Classes will be held as usual that Thursday and officials say many measures will be in place to ensure a normal class day. Many of these actions were taken last year, while others have been added or modified based on the knowledge gained from last year’s game. These include:

  • Improved entry and exit times for certain parking areas for students, faculty and staff;
  • More flexibility and convenience for faculty in certain parking areas;
  • Open access to all academic facilities on normal university schedule (unless specifically requested by the college);
  • Extending the add/drop date for classes to September 2, 2019;
  • Options for faculty who wish to reschedule August 29 classes that are scheduled to meet during the game (7:30 p.m. or later) to alternative dates and locations.

Jerry Strawser, Executive Vice President and CFO, will once again convene a task force including all campus constituent groups to provide further recommendations to ensure a successful class day and game.

PRESIDENT

Howdy!

Texas A&M has once again been invited to move our first football game of the season from Saturday, August 31 to Thursday, August 29. We have agreed to this Thursday game, as, similar to last year, this opportunity allows us to highlight our university and wonderful student athletes for a national audience.

We will hold classes as usual that Thursday and will take numerous actions to ensure that we can continue our normal class and research activities, including providing access to all academic facilities on the normal university schedule and more flexible and accommodating parking privileges for faculty and essential staff. Many of these actions were taken last year, while others have been added or modified based on knowledge gained from last year’s game.

The information we have at this time that may affect students, faculty and staff is available at the Football Thursday website. Similar to last year, additional updates will be provided as game day approaches.

Jerry Strawser, Executive Vice President and CFO, will once again convene a task force including all campus constituent groups to provide further recommendations as needed.

Thank you for your patience as we all work together to ensure both a successful class day and game day.

Gig 'em Aggies!
