The Latest

Below you find the latest news and updates regarding the football game and how you can best stay prepared.

August 3, 2018

From Jerry R. Strawser, Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer Chair, Thursday Football Task Force

This communication addresses the operational plan for faculty and staff for the Thursday football game on August 30, 2018.

President Young has approved the early release of all non-essential personnel at 1 p.m. on Thursday, August 30, 2018. Faculty and staff associated with the support of classroom activities are considered essential personnel as it relates to this release.

Our Task Force has distributed information to university Deans, Vice Presidents, and Department heads that addresses the process for securing parking for essential personnel after 2:30 p.m. on August 30 to ensure minimal disruption to our educational programs. If you are unsure of your status, or have questions regarding parking access for that day, please ask your supervisor.

To receive updated information, make sure to visit the website http://footballthursday.tamu.edu and download the Destination Aggieland app. For additional questions or information not addressed by the website, you can send an inquiry to footballthursday@tamu.edu.

To Our Faculty & Staff: Thank You!

Dear Texas A&M University Faculty and Staff,

Some highlights of the updates include information on the following:

Thank you so much for your support of hosting a college football game on a Thursday, which has not happened at Texas A&M University in more than a decade!

We in the Athletics Department understand the myriad of issues that go along with this enormous endeavor, and, as a way of saying “Thank You”, we are offering University faculty and staff with the opportunity to purchase tickets for $12 per ticket for a limited time.

The discounted tickets are available beginning today and can be purchased by visiting the 12th Man Ticket Center at 12thMan.com/promocode and using the promo code FBTHURSDAY. This opportunity is available for Texas A&M University faculty and staff through August 7. After that time period, single game tickets will go on sale for donors and then the general public. Pro tip: The earlier you buy tickets, the better the ticket inventory you will choose from!

Moving the 2018 season-opener to Thursday, Aug. 30 was important to us because it ensured that the Texas A&M debut of National Championship-winning head coach Jimbo Fisher would be a night game at Kyle Field and nationally-televised by the SEC Network. What a great way to start the Jimbo Fisher Era at Texas A&M!

Once again, thank you for your support of Texas A&M Athletics and the 12th Man, and we hope to see you at Kyle Field on Aug. 30!

Thanks and Gig’Em,

Scott Woodward, Director of Athletics

From Jerry R. Strawser, Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer Chair, Thursday Football Task Force

Texas A&M will host its first Thursday football game in over a decade on August 30, 2018. This means the University will host two typical days in one; regular classes and football game day. Following our meetings and input from faculty, staff, students, and former students, we have developed a plan with the following objectives:

  • We want faculty to hold class and conduct research
  • We want students to attend class
  • We want fans to attend the game

You may have questions about how your daily routine is affected by a Thursday game. We want to help accommodate everyone and their needs on this day, but we will all have to work together to make this happen.

Here are a few things you can do:

  • Plan ahead and know your parking and transportation options.
  • Be flexible. Since this is not a normal day, try something different in your daily routine.
  • Visit the website http://footballthursday.tamu.edu and download the Destination Aggieland app so you will have up-to-date information.

For additional questions or information not addressed by the website, you can send an inquiry to footballthursday@tamu.edu.

Thank you in advance for helping us create two great days in one!
