Transportation Services (TS) has partnered with”Connect By Hertz” to provide students, faculty, and staff with the use of a car by the hour or by the day for a small fee, with the service now available. The innovative car sharing program supplies customers with an economical, convenient and environmentally friendly ‘set of wheels’ to get around with and makes carpooling to and from campus more attractive and convenient, TS officials note. “Connect” provides members with the assurance that if they need to run an errand or leave campus for any reason, a car is easily accessible to them, they add. “Expanding ‘Connect by Hertz’ to colleges nationwide is a testament to the confidence quality partners, such as Texas A&M University, have in the Hertz brand and we’re certain we’ll deliver a superior product to the university’s members.” said Bob Stuart, senior vice president of global sales at Hertz. “We’ve started services on 35 campuses since making Connect available to the university market, and we’re pleased to have Texas A&M join the universities who understand the inherent value in providing car sharing to students and faculty alike.” The university’s self-service fleet consists of four vehicles: a Ford Fusion, a Toyota RAV4, a Nissan Cube and a Nissan Titan. All are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week and are parked on campus. The membership fee will be waived for any new members who sign up through May. The rates for the vehicles start at $8 per hour or $62 per day for a Fusion and go up to $10 per hour or $75 per day for a Titan.
