Texas A&M Transportation Services now requires bicycles on campus to be registered.

Voluntary registration has been available since 2010, but Transportation Services began mandatory bicycle registration last August.

Melissa Maraj, Communications Manager, said the goal is to create a database making it easier to communicate with the bike community.

Maraj says it also makes it easier to return stolen or lost bikes to their owner.

In an attempt to get more bike owners registered, Transportation Services is offering free bike registration through Friday, November 17th.

After November 17th, a $10 registration fee will be applied.

“It is not our goal to have this large scale impounding of unregistered bikes, but we will address unregistered bikes repeatedly parking on campus,” said Maraj.
