College Station city council approves ordinance for ride-sharing bicycle programs

COLLEGE STATION, Tex. (KBTX) – There are new rules and regulations for those yellow ofo bicycles that you've seen scattered around town.

On Thursday night, the College Station City Council approved an ordinance that says ofo, and other bike-sharing programs, must now respond to complaints about bicycles during the week within two hours.

On the weekend, the company has 12 hours to respond to complaints.

If the company doesn't respond within those times, it could face a financial penalty.

Many residents of College Station have complained that in recent months that the ofo bikes are often left in random, and sometimes unsafe locations.

The ordinance goes into effect beginning August 13.

Councilman James Benham said the city should also consider looking at extended regulations for other modes of transportation including electric scooters, which are fast becoming a trend in larger cities around the nation.
