Disabled Parking Overview

Designated disabled parking spaces are for the exclusive use of vehicles displaying county-issued disabled hangtags or disabled license plates.

Several times a year, special events affect campus parking. These times include, but are not limited to, days when special events bring large numbers of visitors to campus such as home football games, graduation, move-in/move-out, Parents Weekend, as well as times when Transportation Services parking staff is not on duty. Please visit the event parking page for your event's disabled parking accomodations.

Transportation Services is committed to providing programs and services that ensure compliance with the nondiscrimination requirements contained in section 35.107 of the Department of Justice regulations. Information concerning the provisions contained and the rights provided within the Americans with Disabilities Act are available below. Transportation Services is committed to providing programs and services that do not discriminate on the basis of disability.

Disabled Visitor Parking

Visitors to the Texas A&M University campus are always welcome. Transportation Services has provided parking accommodations for disabled visitors in locations listed on our Visitor Parking page. Payment is required and the fee for parking in these areas is listed on the page as well as posted at the entrance to each parking facility. Other designated disabled parking spaces are for the exclusive use of vehicles displaying county-issued disabled hangtags or disabled license plates and a valid Texas A&M University parking permit. If parking is not available in one of the visitor areas or if special arrangements are needed, please call Transportation Services at 979.862.7275 (PARK). University affiliates who park on campus are required to purchase a permit, therefore, we ask visitors to refrain from parking in areas designated for faculty, staff and students, unless prior arrangements are made through Transportation Services. Violators are subject to ticketing and/or towing.

Temporary parking permits for surface lots are available in the Transportation Services office located at 108 Koldus and may be purchased for the day, week or month. Individuals who park in disabled spaces outside of visitor pay facilities must display from their rearview mirror the temporary TAMU parking permit AND county-issued disabled hangtag (or disabled license plate affixed in the designated location on the vehicle). The TAMU permit must be hanging closest to the windshield and the county-issued disabled hangtag behind. Unauthorized parking in disabled parking spaces, in the access aisles between two disabled spaces, or blocking disabled ramps is a violation for which persons will be issued a $110 citation. Night privileges are not extended to disabled spaces for vehicles without disabled designation plus a TAMU parking permit.

The disabled hangtag or disabled license plate must be issued in the name of the disabled person utilizing the vehicle parked in a disabled space. Disabled placards, drivers license, identification card and similar information must be provided upon request by a uniformed Parking Services Officer or University Police Officer in order to demonstrate proof of eligibility for disabled parking privileges.

With a county-issued disabled hangtag or disabled license plate PLUS a TAMU parking permit or paid visitor parking fee, a person may park in any available unrestricted space.

Companions who drive for disabled individuals may utilize designated disabled parking spaces only in the lots where they are transporting the individual with the disabling condition. It would be considered a violation of the parking regulations for a companion to drop a disabled passenger at a building on one side of campus and park in a disabled space on the other side of campus. Companions parking in disabled spaces must display the handicapped individual's county-issued hangtag or be driving the individual's vehicle with a disabled license plate, in addition to the disabled person's TAMU parking permit.

University departments may make advance parking arrangements for the guests by contacting our Visitor Conference Coordinator at 979.862.2551.
