Transportation Services utilizes virtual permit parking. Parking is verified using license plate recognition technology. Your plate must be linked to your permit. Customers with virtual permits must register their plate, pay for parking permissions, and display their license plate toward the drive aisle.

How does it work?

Using license plate recognition technology, Texas A&M Transportation Services can easily confirm license plates students, faculty and staff have linked to their permits. This allows for the elimination of hang tag permits.

What is the difference between a permit and an access device?

Access Devices

Access devices are issued to customers whose permit is in a garage or gated lot. Access devices are NOT permits.

Scan the QR code on your access device at the entry of your garage or gated lot to raise the gate to enter and exit.

Customers should keep their access devices from year to year.

If you change your permit and no longer park in a garage or gated lot, your access device will simply stop working. If you change your permit and have access to a garage or gated lot again, your access device will resume functioning.

If you are a faculty or staff member and have a tolltag or other hands-free device, you may submit a request to have this added to your permit as an alternative method of access to your garage or gated lot as well. Students can only access these areas with an access device.

Permits

Permits allow customers to park in assigned lots and garages on campus and are awarded the same way they always have been.

However, rather than receiving a physical permit in the mail, your permit is virtual and your license plate must be linked to your permit.

Since your permit is virtual, it cannot grant you access into a garage or gated facility. Your access device, tolltag, or staff ID must be used to access these areas (see Access Devices panel for options).

License Plates

Parking staff verify customers are parked in their assigned lots or garages by scanning their license plates, instead of by looking at their hangtags as they have done in the past.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many vehicles can I have linked to my permit?

Students may link one plate to their permit. Employees may link up to three to their permit, however only one of these vehicles can be parked on campus at any given time.

What if I swap vehicles with another person that also has a permit?

Both vehicles may be linked to both permits. Only one vehicle may be parked in an assigned area at a time.

Can I still get a physical hangtag if I want one?

No, we have transitioned to virtual permits.

If my parking assignment is behind a garage or behind a gate, how will I access it?

Anyone awarded a garage or gated parking assignment will be issued an access device. Students will use this access device to open the gates. Faculty/staff can use this access device, their employee ID, or registered toll tag.

I have a parking permit, but how do I park in any valid permit area?

Permit holders wishing to park in any valid permit and night/weekend parking lots may continue to do so. No physical hangtag is necessary. Your plate must be linked to your permit to verify parking permissions.

I park in West Campus Garage (or any other gated lot) using an access device but I want to park in Lot 100 (or any other any valid permit lot), how do I park?

Your access device allows you to get into a facility but is no longer a visual indication that you paid for parking. Your plate must be linked to your permit to verify parking permissions.

How do I park when attending an event (football, basketball, concerts, etc.)?

Log in to My Parking Account and scroll to the bottom of the page. You may print this barcode or show your phone to the lot attendee. The license plate shown with the barcode must match the vehicle entering the lot. For event parking locations, please visit our sporting events and annual events pages.

What is the difference between BUS/BU+ and CMP/CM+?

BUS permits are, if you will, an “accessory” to someone’s valid A&M permit. BUS permits, along with a valid A&M permit, allow individuals to park in lots, garages or spaces that are designated as business use.

CMP permits are designed to be used by individuals who do not office on campus but need the ability to come to and park on campus for various reasons.

What does the + mean?

BUS and CMP permits allow access to surface lots and spaces only. They do not permit access into garages or gated facilities.

BU+ and CM+ permits provide the same access to surface lots & spaces, but they also allow parking in garages and gated facilities identified as business parking.

How do I access a gated facility?

If you have a BU+ permit:

  • If you have a personal permit for a gated facility, all of your options for accessing their gated area will be valid. This includes your staff ID, hands free device (transcore/toll tag) or the access device that you received in the mail.
  • If your personal permit is for an ungated facility, you will be able to use your staff ID, OR if you have access to use a BU+ permit you can connect your toll tag or purchase a hands-free device from our office

If you have a CM+ permit:

  • You will be able to use your staff ID, OR if you have access to use a CM+ permit you can connect your toll tag or purchase a hands-free device from our office.
